When asked to describe the infernal cacophony produced by this catastrophic collection of flesh, wood, metal, and strings, the Devil is reported to have said: “Doom Country. Gothic Gospel. Devil Grass. It’s catchy, in other words. But don’t just take Satan’s word for it: Go hear for yourself, Sinner.”   The band's debut album, "Small News Travels Fast In A Bad Town", will be issued on LP and digital.  Pre-orders for the LP are up in our Web Store HERE, plus you can hear the first single 'The Abyss' on our bandcamp sampler HERE.  We haven't set a street date for the LP yet since we're still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the digital album will be out on 7/3/20 and orders from our web store will be shipped near that date.  Be safe, be well and thanks everyone!

"Here, Hold My Cake (Acoustic)"
SLN-FAV11

"Here, Hold My Cake (Acoustic)" is Bad Year's first unplugged effort. It is a donation-based track supporting Project Worthmore (www.projectworthmore.org) & Elevating Connections (www.elevatingconnections.org).

Project Worthmore strives for a world in which all people are valued, included, and empowered. They provide programs that foster community, self-sufficiency and increase quality of life among Denver-area refugees. We here at Bad Year, Inc. love what Project Worthmore is doing and want to support it. Elevating Connections is a community resource that reunites siblings separated in foster care. The sibling relationship is the longest relationship in many lives. Elevating Connections creates opportunities that strengthen the connections between youth, families and their communities. They also help brothers and sisters regain a lost sense of permanency and connection by strengthening their sibling relationships through the Camp To Belong program.

Thanks for helping those in need. We're all better together!

Charlie Continental’s Community Tune Garden (Version 1.0)!

Charlie Continental thinks it’s project time friends!  At Rob Burleson’s suggestion, he has a little song sharing experiment type thing going on.  The idea is simple.  Charlie wrote a song and he's sharing it with anyone that wants to make their own version.  Although he has melodies, lyrics, arrangement etc for his own version, he's just providing participants with a lone electric guitar recording as a guide for complete creative freedom.  Do it solo, do it with a band, make it rock, make it dancey, change the key, add a part, make it loud, make it quiet… do what ya want!  This is open to all interested parties on planet earth!  Just email Charlie (yes, it's really Chuck Coffey of course) at snappylittlenumbers@gmail.com expressing your interest in Charlie Continental’s Community Tune Garden and he’ll send you more info plus what you need to get started... Former Lives
"Joy Of Missing Out"
SLN-FAV10

"Joy Of Missing Out" is the first single from Former Lives, a bedroom project from Portland, OR resident and Denver, CO native Sean Klassen. It is a donation-based track with proceeds benefiting Mutiny Information Cafe (mutinyinfocafe.com) in Sean's old Denver neighborhood, Baker.

Things are pretty scary right now. I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going to happen out there but one thing I do know is that small businesses are hurting. And these places are the hearts of our neighborhoods. They’re sources of culture and community.

Mutiny Information Cafe is a book and coffee shop that embodies everything I love about the Baker neighborhood in Denver—a neighborhood I lived in far longer than anywhere else in my life. It has an endless supply of cool books, records, and art. It’s a friendly gathering place for all ages that makes a good cup of coffee. And it’s off kilter in just the right way.

Shortly before moving to Portland for a new job opportunity, I was collaborating on some songs with my friend Jenn in a spare bedroom at my home in Baker. I thought all of the work we had done together was lost in my move. But recently, I discovered a few of her vocal tracks from some of those songs on an old hard drive. One in particular stood out to me. Joy of Missing Out was written as a tongue-in-cheek anthem for introverts but it takes on a new meaning these days as we’re all staying at home. So, I decided to take Jenn’s vocal track, re-record the rest of the song, and put it out into the world. Maybe it’ll make you smile. Or even better, maybe it’ll give you a reason and a way to support Mutiny right now. It makes me think of a home I loved so much and a neighborhood I want to see make it through these strange times.

Stay safe. Stay home. Wash your hands.

Wax Trax Records (www.waxtraxrecords.com) is an independently owned record shop in Denver, CO. It also happens to be my favorite record store in the world. While I love many record shops (especially Denver shops), I've been a consistent Wax Trax customer since 1994. It was THEE place to go for underground and DIY music when I was a teenager and I will never forget the feeling of discovering so much about music and life within those walls. They've been supportive of not just my labels and bands over the years, but anyone else's that have come to them with records and ideas that offered various contributions to Colorado's front range independent musical community. The musical landscape is ever-changing and through it all, Wax Trax is still here and as vital as ever. This is a little something we can do to help our friends at the shop get by while their doors are shut. If you'd like to help us help them, please do so. Please also be sure to take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Support all the other folks that you're able to in this time of need too. Thanks so much and be well!

Bud Bronson & The Good Timers Raising Funds For Hi-Dive And Mutiny Information Cafe!

Bud Bronson & The Good Timers are donating proceeds raised from all of their merchandise/record/digital sales to two of Denver's finest South Broadway establishments, the Hi-Dive and Mutiny Information Cafe.  We support their decision!  Below is a statement from the band on how/why they're doing this and links if you'd like to grab stuff and are able to lend your support.  Thanks!
Love,
The Staff

Hey friends. Our hearts go out to all those that are on the frontlines fighting COVID-19, whether in hospitals or grocery stores or wherever else people are forced to leave their houses to work right now. We’re also very concerned about all the small businesses that are feeling severe near-term and long-term effects of the shutdown. It’s important that when we get through this, we have independent, locally owned small businesses to return to. Denver has been under siege from developers for years – and the COVID-19 pandemic is very seriously threatening to accelerate the process, likely irreversibly. That’s why we’re indefinitely donating all our merch proceeds to two South Broadway scene stalwarts: Hi-Dive and Mutiny Information Cafe.

There are a ton of small businesses we love and are concerned about. We chose these two because they have not only always been huge supporters of our band, but are so important to so many people in our overall community. Our donations retroactively apply to everyone who already bought merch over the previous weeks. We will continue donating proceeds until businesses reopen.

We've updated our web store to include a ton of newer stuff. We'll include hand-written thank you notes, as we always do, and do our best to fulfill any other specific requests.  Snappy Little Numbers Quality Audio Recordings, the label that issued "Between The Outfield And Outer Space", will also be earmarking BTOAOS physical/digital revenue generated through their commerce locations to go to Hi-Dive and Mutiny Information Cafe for the duration of our campaign as well.
We understand there are a million charities, causes, businesses and people in need of your support right now. We thank everyone who has made an effort to help someone in need. If you feel moved to support the places we’ve chose to support, we are humbled to help you do so.

Keep your head up. Even in this Brave New World Series, the game is far from over.

"Night Windows"

"Night Windows" is a cover song (The Weakerthans) from the State Drugs "666, Blah, Blah, Blah" digital EP. It is a donation-based track with proceeds benefiting The Metro Gallery in Baltimore, MD (themetrogallery.net).

The Metro Gallery is jewel among a few diamonds-in-the-rough businesses on North Charles Street in Baltimore. A few of my closest and coolest friends work there and the venue has been keeping the Baltimore Scene steadily afloat in light of the city losing a few mainstay DIY venues over the last 5 years. Proceeds from this track through May 10, 2020 will benefit The Metro Gallery and their staff.

The Hi-Dive is an independent bar and venue in Denver, CO. It's owned by and run by longtime Denver music people and we love to hang out there, see shows there and play shows there. Our song "Nose Dive" is an ode to what is essentially a home field for us and many other counter-culture type folks in and around Denver. Joe Rankin and Dinged Up have been churning out earworms all across Maryland and the East Coast since 2013.  "Mucho Dolor" is Dinged Up's sophomore LP with all instrumentation and vocals recorded by Joe himself.  It was originally released digitally in 2016, but it's now properly seeing a physical reissue on LP thanks to a collaboration with Wallride Records. Joe had put Dinged Up on hold for a bit a couple years back, but reformed the group in 2019 with a solid lineup and they're ready to support "Mucho Dolor" well into the future.  The current crew includes players that have done time or still do time in such heavy hitters such as The Jons, Deep Sleep and Night Birds.  That's just a few examples of the serious pedigrees that comprise Dinged Up!  You can pre-order the LP on translucent red vinyl with hand screened jackets from our Web Store HERE, plus there is a single on our bandcamp sampler to get you up to speed on the brilliance of Dinged Up.  Time to get on board with another stellar combo from out east!

SLN-173 Slides Down The Bar Right Into Your Waiting Hand!

The new 7" from Scooter James, "We Bend b/w Dear Friends" is out now!  This record is Scooter's official solo debut.  Scooter has been an integral part of the Denver-area music scene since the early 90's.  His past credits include Pinhead Circus, Love Me Destroyer, Tin Horn Prayer and Ol' Hickory.  That's quite the resume!  His new 7" spins at 45RPM and is pressed on randomly mixed color vinyl.  It comes with a download code and is housed in a Nebraska-esque sleeve that also includes an insert. You can grab one from our Web Store HERE.  If digital is your preferred option, it's on our bandcamp HERE.  You can also find it on all the usual digital/streaming sites and the 7" is distributed by Recess Ops.  A lot of us in Denver are walking a path paved by cool folks like Scooter.  He's still going strong and this record proves it.  300 7"s on randomly mixed color vinyl, download code included. Charlie Continental's "We're Getting Fixed (The Grawlix Save The World)" Digi-Single Out Now!

Charlie Continental has whipped up another jingle!  The Grawlix Saves the World is a hilarious new podcast and The Grawlix gang (Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy) asked Charlie to write them a theme song, which he of course did.  It's called "We're Getting Fixed (The Grawlix Save The World)" and there are 2 versions, a full and an edit.  You can hear both and send a tip (if ya wanna, don't gotta!) on our bandcamp page HEREYeah we know, The Grawlix say "saves" but Charlie says "save".  He worked with what he knew at the time and now we have a fun fact!  Keen listeners might remember Charlie penned the theme song for The Grawlix crew's television show "Those Who Can't" that aired for 3 fantastic seasons. We'll figure out some sort of physical release for this latest tune and the digital version will hit all the other digi-streaming spots later this month.  The Grawlix Saves The World podcast launched on 1/14/20, so set your pod-dial right now.  Thanks for listening!
