Pink Hawks Release Show Coming Up!

Denver’s hottest afrobeat act is back! On Friday October 2nd at Ophelia's in Denver we're releasing "Taste Your Medicine b/w KuKu" on 12" random color vinyl (with download) by Pink Hawks, the 10-piece afrobeat/global dance orchestra.  Taste Your Medicine is a sexy, upbeat, Afrodisco track.  The music video for Taste Your Medicine will also be premiered at this event.  Kuku is inspired by a traditional Guinean song that celebrates food and festival.  Pink Hawks places this music piece within the context of international food politics and food justice, with horn lines transcribed from lead djembe phrases, striking rap vocals by Molina Speaks, and a percussion feature by master drummer Fara Tolno.  Listen for the message or let your body move; neither choice will disappoint.  Pink Hawks has been a staple in Denver’s world music, cultural arts, and dance scenes since before the release of their debut album Shima (May 2011).  Led by eccentric frontman Yuzo Nieto, the band has changed, grown, changed again, and grown some more.  Known for their eclectic presence, Pink Hawks fans can expect new talent on stage, more poetry and lyricism, and an even broader range of sounds and styles.  Newcomers can expect to be turned on to one of Denver’s premier performance bands.  Preview a track on our sampler now!  How about them apples?!

Dirty Few/Rootbeer And Mermentau Split 7" Out Soon!

That's right folks, SLN-122 is coming in hot!  It's a split 7" from Dirty Few and Rootbeer And Mermentau and it's a doozy!  Two tracks from each band and a download to boot.  Come celebrate the release before the two bands leave on the Set 'Em Free tour Friday September 4 at Lost Lake in Denver.  Wanna know more about the bands?  Well Dirty Few goes a little something like this: Warm beers. Out-of-tune guitars. Cancelled shows. Broken mopeds. While lesser bands may have crumbled under the weight of such colossal rock & roll bummers, Dirty Few has not only weathered the storm, but emerged victorious, leading an entire army of Denver dive-bar diehards into a rad utopia where the babes are hot, the PBR flows like wine and a little barf is nothing more than a sure sign you’re having a good night. Rootbeer And Mermentau keep it a little more succinct: Southern Two piece Fuzz Rock.  Enough said.  Preview "YOLOCO" and "Walk" on our sampler to the left right now!

SLN-119 Has Danced It's Way Here!

The debut Cassingle "Squeeze b/w W.H.I.D.?" from pxlman is out now!  Squeeze is electropop at it’s finest.  Layered, driving and catchy as hell.  W.H.I.D.? is dense and manic.  It ramps up until all hell breaks loose.  This debut release just hints at what this band can do, but in the meantime just play, flip, play and repeat.  The new pxlman Cassingle can be ordered through our store HERE in a variety of colors and they all come with download codes.  The digi-version is on our bandcamp HERE.  You can pick up a copy at our favorite Denver area stores too and they'll be hitting distros and e-markets shortly.  It's a toe-tapper and ass-shaker, so get on it!  Pressing Info: 50 blue cassette tapes, 50 lime green cassette tapes, 50 pink cassette tapes, 50 goldenrod cassette tapes. Download code included.

We're Branching Out With pxlman's "Squeeze b/w W.H.I.D.?" Cassingle!

Get out your dancing shoes and get ready to get on board with the first release from Denver's own pxlman!  The "Squeeze b/w W.H.I.D.?" Cassingle will be released on April 23rd with a (debut!) show at the Hi-Dive that will feature labelmates SPELLS as well as a DJ set by Julian Church.  Check out Squeeze on our label sampler to the left for a taste of pxlman's infectious nature.  pxlman may seem like a bit of a departure for SLN, but Randy and Gracie are supremely DIY and huge supporters and creators of all sorts of music.  Plus, it's dance music that rocks.  Sounds like a pretty good fit to us!

Warm Spring Reviews For Mako1972 And SPELLS!

The reviews keep coming in on our talented artists and for good reason... they're rad!  Our pals over at the 7 Inches blog gave the ace treatment to both the Mako1972 "Cannonball Lecture b/w Even Ghosts Perish" 7" and the SPELLS "At Sea/Land Locked" 7" EP.  See their takes on Mako1972 HERE and SPELLS HERE.  Mako1972 also got a nice write up on their debut 7" by Tim PopKid at I Buy Way Too Many Records Dot Com and you can read that HERE.  We appreciate the quality journalism and everyone needs to keep up with these blogs!

Time To Officially Welcome pxlman To The Family!

We've hinted at it, but now it's time to officially welcome the excellent pxlman to the SLN family.  pxlman is an electropoprock outfit out of Denver, CO.  This two piece band lays down a grinding foundation of thick kicks and arpeggiating synths, then layers on distorted organs and horns that lend to a complex take on the electropop genre.  Front man and songwriter Randy M. Washington brings to the band over a decade of writing electronic music, most notably, fronting the German electropop band Total Ghost.  Balancing the scale on the other side is DJ and visual designer Gracie McGuire.  Fueled with years of work on the road as a tour consultant for a handful of bands, she joined with the focus of taking the duo well beyond their home base of Denver.  If the beginning of this band's career is indicative of anything, they are sure to perk ears, turn heads and blaze trails for a long time to come.  Their debut cassingle on SLN is due out April 23rd.  More on that soon!

Empty Palace "The Serpent Between The Stars" Album!

We're psyched to announce that we'll be releasing "The Serpent Between The Stars", the debut album from L.A.'s heavy space rock juggernaut Empty Palace.  It will come out on the always classic cassette format and will of course include a download code.  This album follows their stellar SLN-released self-titled 7" EP and features a fine balance of masculine rock guitars and screaming Hammonds with the androgyny of glitter rock vocal stylings and flippant use of analog synthesizers.  Basically, it's a smoke show.  Check out 'God-Shaped Hole' on our sampler and hear for yourself.  You can pre-order the cassette through the band plus get more details HERE.  The band has a video release show in L.A. at El Cid on February 28th and will be taking pre-orders there too.  We'll be sure to let you know when we get our cassettes in stock so you can order one straight away!
